What we keep
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The result of a scan: the site you asked about and what we found on its public pages. Results are public. Email addresses and phone numbers a site lists are shown masked. | To show the result to you and to anyone who looks the site up. | As long as the result is useful. A site’s owner can ask us to remove it. |
| A one-way code made from your IP address, a secret and the date, with the sites looked up under it and when it reached the daily limit. We never store the IP address itself, and the code changes every day. | The daily limit: 5 sites a day. | 2 days. |
| A report of a wrong finding: the finding, your message and, only if you give one, your email address. | To review it and reply. | 90 days. |
| Site verification: the domain, your email address and the code you published. | To mark your corrections as coming from the site’s owner. | Unfinished checks 7 days; finished ones until you ask us to delete them. |
| The bulk scan waitlist: your email address and your answers. | To plan bulk scans and write to you about them. | Until you ask us to delete it. |
| The sites you looked up recently, in your own browser only. They never reach us. | To show them under the scan box. | Until you clear this site’s data in your browser. |
We keep results, the daily code and reports because we have a legitimate interest in running a free, fair service; site verification because you asked for it.
Who helps us run it
- Cloudflare serves the site and sends our email. To deliver pages and protect the site it sees IP addresses, and keeps its technical logs for a few days. Its Web Analytics counts visits without cookies (pages, where a visit came from, country, device) and shows us only totals.
- Neon holds our database, in Frankfurt (EU).
- Anthropic writes the automatic summary when it is on. It receives only the public text of the scanned page, nothing about you.
Some of them are US companies. Data that leaves the EU is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the EU’s standard contractual clauses.
Sites we scan
Our scanner reads the public pages of the sites people look up, and of a few popular sites each hour. It follows robots.txt and names itself (CheckAnySiteBot). We show our own copy of each site’s icon, so your browser never contacts the sites you look up through us. Site owners can ask for a correction or removal.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete data about you, or object to how we use it: write to hello@checkanysite.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority, such as the one where you live.
